Tuvix Alternatives.

The second-season Voyager episode "Tuvix" featured some amazing acting on the part of actor Tom Wright as Tuvix, a transporter-created hybrid of Tuvok and Neelix, capturing the distinctive personality traits and mannerisms of both characters. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling imagine alternative Voyagercharacter hybrids besides Tuvok and Neelix. Which character traits would be most prominent, and which actors or actresses would best capture the personality traits and mannerisms of these alternative character hybrids?

Halfway Home.

The seventh-season episode "Shattered" offers a tiny glimpse into one possible future for the Voyager crew, 17 years into the future. If the events of the Voyager series finale "Endgame" had not occurred, presumably Voyager would have continued its long trek back to the Alpha Quadrant over a period of 75 years. In that time, there would naturally be changes aboard Voyager as crew members age, retire, or pass away, and with younger officers rising through the ranks to take their place.

In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Suzanne Williamson discuss other possible futures for Voyager, 30 years into the journey and halfway home. Who would the captain of Voyager be after 30 years? What would the command structure be like? Who would the senior officers and department heads be? How would the careers of junior officers and the children born aboard Voyager develop over 30 years? And would there be any major changes to Voyager itself or the premise of the series as a whole?

Seska...What If?

Seska may be the character fans love to hate in Star Trek: Voyager. And sadly, or perhaps gladly, Seska met her demise at the beginning of Season 3. But what would have happened had Seska remained on Voyager for all seven seasons? How might the Voyagerstory have unfolded differently had Seska not in fact been a Cardassian spy, but instead an ordinary, run-of-the-mill (but still feisty) Bajoran?

In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling explore alternative directions that the character of Seska could have taken in Voyager. What if Seska and Chakotay had maintained a long-term relationship and raised a family together? What if Seska were actually a changeling instead of a Cardassian? What if, instead of the Delaney Sisters, Voyager had more than one twin or clone Seska Sisters? And how exactly is laundry done aboard Voyager, and what does that have to do with Seska?

163: Ample Nacelles

Voyager in the JJ-Verse.

Star Trek loves playing with timelines. We have seen every incarnation of the franchise play with possibilities outside of what we consider "our" timeline, from Edith Keeler in the 1930s to Captain Janeway on in the 29th century. Aside from the "prime" universe and the Mirror Universe, we now have the Abramsverse. In this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan envision what Voyager and her crew would be like in the timeline created in the JJ Abrams-produced films. They discuss the likelihood of a Vulcan on the ship, a CGI alien as a regular cast member, the aesthetics of key areas of the ship, and much more. And yes, lens flares are still a thing in the 24th century.

To The Journey 123: Something You Assimilated

What if Janeway Died, Part II.

WE LOVE JANEWAY! She is our captain! Please read on and listen.

Losing a main character on a Trek series is no small matter, but losing a captain would have been doubly problematic, had it happened. That's why Char and Tristan speculated what would have happened if Janeway had died in To The Journey 113, "Harry Gets Promoted." However, they only got through Season Three, which leaves four more years of "what ifs" to ponder. Have tissues at the ready, because in this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan pick up where they left off in TTJ 113 and discuss areas of seasons 5-7 where Janeway could have died and why.

To The Journey 115: See It On-Screen

A Voyager Prequel/Sequel.

When a franchise is successful, it's only natural that fans and producers alike want more of it. Sometimes a spinoff show is a raging success, like Better Call Saul, the prequel to Breaking Bad. Then there are those other times when the expansion of a popular fandom doesn't measure up to what came before. The Star Trek spinoffs that came after TOS aren't immune from such scrutiny.  It is also a foregone conclusion that any future Trek show will also face the same fate. In this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan disclose their ideas for an installment of the Star Trek franchise that would serve as a prequel or sequel to Star Trek: Voyager.

NOTE: This podcast contains spoilers for the novels that take place after Voyager gets home.

To The Journey 114: I.S.S. Intrepid

Voyager in the Mirror Universe.

The closest Voyager ever got to a Mirror Universe episode was "Living Witness," which portrayed the crew as ruthless toward those it encountered, and with quicker tendencies toward violence. Despite these similarities, this depiction was actually a historically inaccurate portrayal of Voyager's actions in the Delta Quadrant. This episode whet the appetites of many Voyager fans and served as a sampler of what the Mirror Universe might have been like. In this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan take up the suggestion of several listeners and set the stage for what might have transpired in the Delta Quadrant Mirror Universe.

To The Journey 113: Harry Gets Promoted

What if Janeway Died?

When it came to her crew, Captain Janeway would do anything to protect their safety...including sacrificing her own life. What if, on one of the many occasions where her life was in imminent danger, she really died and the Magic Reset Button was broken? Char and Tristan consider the numerous developments that would have happened to Voyager — both onboard the ship and in the series overall — as a result of Captain Janeway's demise before the end of their seven-year journey.
